We’re happy to announce another great Client Feature for February!  Gaye Martin has been a pleasure to work with over the last year.  The commitment and dedication that she shows for her health has been great and we are so glad to have had the opportunity to workout with her!  With a history of scoliosis in her spine, there were a lot of modified exercises, although every one was designed specifically for her body, and the results have been great so far!  She continues to work hard every week and we’re excited to see how this year will turn out!  Great job Gaye, keep it up!

  • Name:

Gaye Martin

  • Tell us a bit about yourself:

I am 64 years old and semi-retired.  I’ve always been active and fitness has been a part of my life.  My love of swimming led me to become an instructor/lifeguard as an adult and I taught children and adults for 15 years.  During that time I certified to teach Aquafit, which I still do.  My other loves are Golden Retrievers, books, photography, gardening, walking in the woods and riding my motorcycle.

  • How long have you been working out with Matrix of Motion?

Greg and I started working together 15 months ago.

  • What is your Workout/Exercise/Therapy history:

I work out with Greg once a week, swim 40-50 lengths once a week, go to the gym once a week and teach Aquafit in the water once a week.  I always walked once or twice a day for 30 minutes with my dog(s).

  • Why did you start working with Matrix of Motion?

I’ve had severe scoliosis (curvature of the spine) my whole life, which has affected my stride patterns, my alignment, my leg length and weakened the muscles of my back with aging.  Other issues such as osteoarthritis and weakened muscles are increasing.  To strengthen my back and hold adjustments in place longer, my friend Jaclyn Foster (owner: Eden Chiropractic and Wellness) repeatedly suggested I see Greg.  I decided to switch from yoga to strength training.

  • What do you like most about working with Matrix of Motion?

I love working out with Greg.  He’s easy to talk to, incredibly knowledgeable, plays your favourite music and his private studio is so much warmer and quieter than the gym setting.  His specialized training in assessments and muscle activation techniques is extremely beneficial for problem areas you may be experiencing, such as muscle imbalance which causes pain.

  • What has your experience been like?

My experience has been nothing but positive and educational which is important to me as an instructor.  I am stronger and more muscular than I have been in years and if there is ever any discomfort in an exercise, Greg quickly modifies the position to eliminate stress.  He constantly monitors all body positioning to make sure the right muscles are being activated correctly.  Each workout incorporates new exercises, so there is very little repetition.

  • What are your goals? Anything specific that you are working towards?

My goals are to continually build muscle mass, bone density and strength.  As we age we tend to loose these attributes, along with core strength which is essential for good posture, balance and activities of everyday living.  Keeping fit is essential for life health and energy.

  • What do you use as motivation to help keep you moving forward?

I look at the difference in my muscle tone and strength since I started with Greg and that is enough to keep me coming back regularly.  My daughter Lauren is also so Shoulder Flexionmotivating for me, as she is a fitness competitor and her dedication to the gym is very inspiring.

  • What advice can you offer to others who are looking to get in shape/become healthier/starting to exercise etc…

If you want to get in shape but find big gyms intimidating, hate to get wet, are too old for pounding the pavement, then Matrix of Motion could be the right fit for you.
