I thought that I would include this in the blog today!  It is an article written by a client of mine who, after experiencing what personal training is like, thinks that everyone should take advantage of one if they can!  Here it is…

I was never one who believed in a personal trainer. I personally just never understood the point. Could people not just go to the gym on their own?  How could they even afford to do it once or twice a week? How did anyone have time for that on top of everything else?

I had previously done the gym thing. I would avoid the equipment that I didn’t know how to do or the exercises I know I didn’t like.  I would do my work out (usually involving a treadmill for part of the night) and feel good when I left. I basically felt I had done what I could do to be this so called “healthy” everyone talks about.

Then out of nowhere I decided to give a personal trainer a try. I don’t know why I decided to do this but figured why not? If nothing else I would go to one session and not buy anymore.  I had done my research and learned which type of personal trainer I wanted to avoid. There were many that did the weekend course and were certified to train. In my head I thought that if I was going to spend $60.00 an hour I wanted to be sure that whoever was going to have me lifting weights had to be someone who was extremely knowledgeable and understood exactly how the human body worked.

I went to my first session with low expectations. I couldn’t understand how a trainer would be able to do much more than what I was already doing. I mean I left the gym sweating so clearly I was doing something while I was there.  Within the first 20 minutes I realized how much I needed to learn. Exercises that I thought I was doing right were being corrected in a manner that the trainer stated would be more beneficial to my body and my goals.  I could not believe how much I could learn and how much more motivated I was after that first hour.

I went in partially skeptical, I left being fully hooked and pumped for my next session. I finally understood why everyone needs a personal trainer.  The extra little bit of motivation, the person who will educate you with all of the benefits that each piece of equipment will do for your workout if done correctly and frankly the amount of sweat you will pass in that hour will never compare to that you can do on your own.

I realized with a few minor changes in my finances I could actually make this work. I now dedicate my that time each week with my trainer to focus on me and relieving all of my stress, anxiety and anger that may have built up from work, like, and quite frankly, my last session.

I have never felt more alive. I know that statement is so “cliché” but it is true. I no longer avoid equipment because I know how to use it, I know I have the proper form when I go to the gym on my own and I know I am truly pushing myself to limits I never thought possible.

I can truthfully say I now understand why people have personal trainers.
