We had another early start today. Greg and I began the hour long routine at 4:45am. If you’re like most, you probably think it’s an absurd time to be exercising; however, I was surprisingly productive the rest of the day. During our training session this week Greg shared an analogy with me, you can’t be an expert at something without the building blocks of previous knowledge or experiences. Similar to the belief that you need to first be responsible with small tasks in order to accomplish larger undertakings. Afterwards, I felt positive about the results of my efforts, and appreciated Greg’s guidance. I also noticed changes in my body during the week, mostly increased confidence.

Admittedly though, I lost focus and did exactly the opposite of what Greg told me. At the beginning of the week he gave me planned routines, four days of the week spent on sprinting drills and body weight exercises. Well, I was eager and distracted by my own idea of how to accomplish the goals we discussed. I nearly joined a half marathon training group, a soccer team, and a yoga program. As you may have guessed, I didn’t complete any of the tasks Greg initially asked of me, so I sabotaged the week. And I know why I did it – simply because I prefer to do things my own way. Thankfully, I’m the self-correcting type, but then again seeing Greg this week probably has something to do with keeping me in line. I trust Greg to lead the way, but I need to first accomplish smaller tasks and readdress my goals frequently in order to stay focused.

Other things I’ve learned from this flop of a week is to be kind to myself, not to be hasty, and receive the professional advice that’s offered. So far this experience is more than just physical training, it’s a humbling experience that I’m continually benefiting from.

Next week I’ll share a before photo with stats along with goals we have set.
