Greg and I met up for our weekly session today, but this one had an unexpected outcome. I was fired! Though Greg wouldn’t say it, I will: “It’s not me, it’s you”. Then again, I would swear it was mutual! Anyways, we both decided I should take a hiatus.

I have found that I am in a good position to take a break. I am honored that Greg would encourage me to make this decision, because I didn’t want to. If you’ve followed the blog, you’d know I despise quitting. This decision contradicts what I posted last week, and why I was nervous to bring it up with Greg today. Just this past month life has been exceptionally chaotic, and this strength training session was the constant I thought I needed. My motivation has certainly dwindled considering personal workouts, none of which are taking place. Today Greg shared his concerns.

In his opinion, it’s more important for me to regroup before I burnout. In the midst of experiencing more than normal life stresses, Greg suggested that had I continued to overexert myself could mean potentially harming my body. A hiatus is healthy contrary to popular belief, and what is seen in the fitness world. Call it what you will, I thought this was a cop-out and I would be a quitter. So much of what we read in the online fitness community reinforces: “keep going”. I really felt this decision would mean I’d reflected weak character, Greg kindly reminded me the truth of the matter is that it shows strength. I am choosing to take a break and recommit in good timing.
